Giambi’s Meeting a Breakthrough in Steroids Controversy 06/24/2007
The Yankee slugger is the first of the steroids-suspected stars to agree to sit down with baseball steroids investigator George Mitchell. In a breakthrough statement of appeasement, Giambi actually mentioned the word, “steroids,” apologized to MLB Commissioner Bud Selig, owners and players and took total responsibility for what he had done in the past.
Implications for this action could be enormous. He could face suspension by the Commissioner’s office. He also could face the voiding of his highly paid contract with the Yankees.
(A sports system based on absurdly highly paid contracts encourages fine athletes in their right to cheat thus damaging the sport itself. Giambi’s coming forth is a positive development but have all the Steroid’s cheaters damaged baseball to a point where it will never be the same?)
