Sammy Sosa Hits 600th Homer and Nobody Cares 06/24/2007There are only five major league players in baseball history who have hit 600 home runs or more. The latest is Texas Rangers (former Chicago Cubs) outfielder Sammy Sosa. The other four: Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Barry Bonds and Willie Mays. Moreover, he accomplished this milestone in a game against his former team. Chicago sports columnist and TV commentator Jay Mariotti writes: "I make no apologies in calling it cheap, unceremonious and suspicion-marred, a dubious moment that someday may be affixed with an *….As cameras flashed like lightening bolts and fireworks exploded in the sky, Sosa hit his 600th career home run… a milestone that may have been saluted by all Cubs fans if he hadn’t corked his bat, quit on the final day of his last season and left miserably as just another plastic hero from the steroid’s era." (What has happened to our "National Pastime" when hero’s like Sosa and Barry Bonds are so scorned? Can the present sports environment handle another strike, new ability enhancing substances that might pass a urine test, blatant criminal and anti-social behavior? How long will the fans tolerate it?) Go Back... More ArticlesGo Back... | Back to TruStar Sports News Center
